Empowering Change: The Salem Women's Service  Club Community Projects"

At the heart of our club lies a dedication to uplifting our community through meaningful projects. From fostering education to promoting health and wellness, our initiatives aim to create a brighter future for all.   

Together, we strive to build a more inclusive and thriving community where every individual has the opportunity to flourish. Join us in our mission to empower change and make a difference in the lives of those around us. Together, we can achieve greatness.

PROJECTS

  • Saidie’s Cupboard (since 2005): Provides Family bags filled with basic household/hygiene supplies; Newborn Infant bags filled with clothing, blankets, diapers, rattle, books and other supplies; as well as diapers of all sizes, infant and toddler supplies, household supplies and a variety of other items to low-income children, individuals and families. We partner with organizations like the Marion County Public Health and Teen Parent Programs.

In its 17 years of operation, this program continues to expand and serve a wide variety of vulnerable populations. It has provided 761 Family Bags, 507 Infant Bags, 31,127 Diapers and hundreds of other miscellaneous items!

  • Comfort Pillows (since 2006): This program provides small handmade flannel pillows to the Salem Cancer Institute for breast cancer patients to use after surgery. The small pillows protect their incision area and help them rest comfortably.

5,379 pillows provided since 2006!

  • Domestic Violence Awareness (since ~2002): Our longest continuous project, this program provides small bags of personal hygiene items to domestic violence victims in local shelters. These bags provide essential hygiene items to women who are forced to leave their homes with nothing but the clothes on their back.

Over 1,281 hygiene bags distributed since 2002!

  • Refugee Assistance (since 2021): Supports the work of Salem For Refugees by providing basic kitchen, bathroom and bedroom household items to help new refugees get settled in their new home.

Over $13,791 worth of household items distributed since 2021!

  • Veteran's Services (since 2022):  Works with Tanner House, a low-barrier housing program for Veterans, to provide items needed for residents including: reading glasses, hygiene supplies, arts/crafts, books, snacks and pet supplies.

Over $2,734 worth of requested items distributed since 2022!

  • Guide Dogs For the Blind (2023): Provides blankets and other needed items for their guide dogs in training.
  • Literacy: Club members collect new and gently used books for all ages and distribute them throughout the community to encourage literacy for all ages.
